ONE SHOT AWAY FOR A DOUBLE FROM QUEBEC IN FLORIDA AND THE COMPANY FOR BRIGITTE!
By Mario Brisebois
The Minor League mini-tour circuit in South Florida is Quebecois these days.
By virtue of his score of 68, at Indian Spring on Monday, Yohann Benson
took second place, on Thursday, in a pre-qualification tournament for the Puerto Rico Open, a PGA event coming up in March.
That's one more shot than American winner Blake Morris.
Last Thursday, Raoul Ménard, a Team Canada graduate associated with Pinegrove Club,
took the stage off the Wellington National course with great brio.
His 65, seven under par, was a new record on this field remodeled by the legendary Johnny Miller.
Member of the PGA of Quebec, selected Assistant Pro of the Year 2020 for his work
at Laval-sur-le-Lac, former caddy at the U.S. PGA, regular on the Canadian circuit and
now at RDS during Grand Slam events, Benson knows very well the
Indian Spring course, a private club popular with our snowbirds-golfers.
He is a teaching professional there.
It's been a busy week at Indian Springs where another pre-qualifying tournament
for Puerto Rico will take place as soon as Thursday.
The Minor League Series has 88 alumni at the PGA or Korn Ferry circuits, including Brooks
Koepka.
NOW A QUEBEC PAIR AT FRESNO STATE
The number one player in the Fresno State team, Brigitte Thibault
now has company from here.
When the NCAA resumes operations this week, it included Lory Paradis,
from Blainville, as a teammate-recruit.
Lory began her university internship with a very respectable card of 74 in
not perfect conditions with the weather being difficult everywhere. Brigitte
is 3rd overall by virtue of her minus one record.
